Therapy
Catchpoint's Creative Attachment Therapy Model is based on attachment theory and research into the effectiveness of
creative arts and play therapies in healing trauma. Creative Attachment Therapy focuses on the parent-child relationship.
Families
The role of the parents
Catchpoint seeks to work in partnership with parents at all times. We recognise that parents are the experts for their family, and that they know what are the important issues in their home. This expertise is invaluable to us as therapists if we are to avoid projecting an idea of what a 'family' ought to be. We believe that supporting parents in developing an understanding of the effects of their child's trauma on everyone at home, is more beneficial than telling them to do things that would make them feel uncomfortable. We hope that this will give them the skills to address future problems.
Parent's in therapy
During the therapy session we ask parents to:
- Accept that we are in charge, and that we set the rules and boundaries.
- Participate in the activities. No skill in art or music required.
- Direct questions to the child through the therapist.
- Let us know how they are feeling.
- Let us know if they feel we are being manipulated by the child.
- Let us know if they would like feedback between sessions.
Therapists are available on the phone for support at the following times.
Wednesday 1.30 - 4.00 and Tuesday 6.30 - 8.30
We will set aims for therapy in consultation with parent, and then regularly review these aims to assess progress and determine new goals. This could mean that we have occasional sessions without the child, or we may go to family home for an evening consultation or we may meet at Catchpoint or in the offices of the supporting agency. The adoption support worker is welcome to attend these consultations.
